Dear friend of the SIAB,

We are living through uncertain times with COVID-19. Our Gala Committee and Board of Directors have been monitoring the Governor’s orders and the CDC guidelines for group gatherings trying to determine if we could safely and responsibly hold our rescheduled gala date of September 26. Given the restrictions and required protocols and in the best interest of everyone’s health, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Gala.

The annual Spring Gala is our premiere fundraising event where we award our major grants to local nonprofits. Each year, we work hard so that we can help more and more Harford County citizens that depend on the programs and services provided by our grant recipients. In past years, we awarded grants to St. Margaret’s Outreach Ministry, The Arc NCR, Boys & Girls Clubs, SARC, Harford Family House, Extreme Family Outreach, and Addiction Connections Resource.

The 2020 named Gala grant recipients are Anna’s House homeless shelter and CASA of Harford County supporting children in our juvenile court system. The SIAB members committed a $25,000 grant to each organization, and it is still our intent to award those this year where their need is even greater. Additionally, in the event we exceed our goal, any surplus proceeds from the Gala will be used to fund future scholarship awards.

This is where we need your support! You can help us by converting your ticket purchases, advertisements, and sponsorships into a fully tax-deductible donation to the Society of Italian American Businessmen so we can make good on our pledges to help the homeless and children of Harford County.

We understand that the pandemic affects us all differently, so if a donation is not feasible for you at this time, just let us know and we will arrange a refund.

We remain optimistic, and it is our hope and intent to hold our next Gala as soon as the situation and restrictions improve, and our supporters are comfortable attending social gatherings once again. Until then, we wish you and your family all the best.

Dear Fratelli, Family, Friends, and Supporters:

First, we hope this message finds you all well. The COVID-19 crisis has affected us all–everything from how we work, to increased anxiety and fear, to being separated from family and friends. While adjusting ourselves, the SIAB Board of Directors has also been monitoring the changing situation to see how it would impact our efforts to fundraise for the non-profits we have pledged to support in 2020.

With a tightening activity and availability calendar as the year marches on, we’ve made some decisions regarding our three signature events that we believe will give us the best opportunity to achieve our fundraising goals and stay true to our commitments of supporting local charities.

  • Spring Gala, already rescheduled once to May 15th, will be rescheduled to take place on March 26 2021 at 7:00 PM to Midnight at Richlin Catering and Events Center. 
  • Summer Golf Outing scheduled for June has been canceled.
  • Fall Linguine & Crab Feast scheduled for September 26 has been canceled to allow us to hold our formal Gala that evening.

We know these are challenging times. We are also confident in your support so that we may fulfill our pledges to Anna’s House and CASA who were the chosen recipients of this year’s Gala grants. This year, more than ever, those funds will be a lifeline to the two organizations and the people dependent on them that they serve.

Our home country was devasted by this insidious disease, but the spirit and resiliency of the Italian people were never more evident. We are counting on that same spirit in you to help us ensure that we have a successful Gala in September and do our part to keep our county and its most vulnerable residents as strong as they can be.
